Competition process for SkillPLUMB 2009 (England & Wales)

Stage 1 - identifying your best candidate

  • Colleges and employers should use the 'Skill M&E talent spotting checklist' to identify suitable candidates and then, if needed, run in-house competitions to select their best competitor.
  • Entry forms to register best competitors should be submitted by 31 March 2009.

Stage 2 - assessing the candidate

  • Spring 2009: an independent assessment of all nominated candidates is undertaken to test their underpinning knowledge and practical appreciation.

Stage 3 - regional skills competitions (England & Wales*)

  • Summer 2009: assessed candidates will compete in their country's regional skills competition.  The practical competition specification will be issued prior to the events.

Stages 2 and 3 may be combined depending on volume of entries

* For Scotland - contact SNIPEF, tel: 0131 225 2255, email: info@snipef.org

Stage 5 - WorldSkills selection

  • There may be an opportunity for the top candidates from the UK final to be invited to the UK Skills selection event*.

*Candidates need to fall within the age parameters and work standard set by WorldSkills UK (for WorldSkills 2011 candidates will need to be born on or after 01 January 1989).
